What Do Certificates Guarantee?

In winding-conductor supply there are two separate document families, and they are often confused. The first is management-system certificates; these show that the company's processes are defined and auditable — they do not describe the properties of a single shipment. The second is product/batch documents; these certify the measured values of the shipped material and its conformity to the relevant standard.

Management-System Certificates

• ISO 9001:2015 — Quality Management System: ensures that supply, storage, cutting/cut-to-length and shipment processes are run in a defined, measurable and auditable way.
• ISO 14001 — Environmental Management System: covers the monitoring of environmental impacts, above all packaging waste, reel recycling and metal scrap management.
• ISO 45001 — Occupational Health & Safety: manages risks in heavy reel handling, forklift traffic and cut-to-length bench operations.

Material Certificates: EN 10204 3.1

The standard document for shipped batches is the EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate. This document is issued by the manufacturer's authorised inspection personnel independent of production, and contains the values actually measured on the shipped batch. Typical content for a conductor batch is:

• Conductor material and purity class (copper or electrolytic aluminium)
• Size: diameter on round; width × thickness and corner radius on flat
• Insulation type and build grade (Grade 1/2/3 or number of paper layers)
• Thermal class (155, 180, 200, 220) and the relevant product standard
• Measured breakdown voltage, elongation and other test results
• Batch / cast number and production date

An important note: the document type must be stated at the order stage. Issuing a 3.1 certificate retroactively after shipment is completed is in most cases not possible, because the document rests on the inspection records made during production.

Product Declarations of Conformity

An IEC 60317 declaration of conformity states that the enamelled conductor meets the requirements of the relevant part (60317-0-1 for round, 60317-0-2 for flat). For production aimed at the North American market, a NEMA MW 1000 referenced declaration may be requested. On paper and aramid-insulated products, IEC 60554 / IEC 60819 references for the insulation material, and on mica-based products, IEC 60371 references, appear in the declaration.

The Place of Certificates in the Project Specification

In public tenders, energy investments and export projects the document list is usually a separate heading in the specification. Three problems are common here. First, the specification containing only the phrase "certified material"; which document type is required stays unclear and a dispute arises at delivery. Second, confusing the product standard with the test standard; IEC 60317 defines the product, IEC 60851 the test method. Third, writing the thermal class only with a letter (F, H, N); stating the numerical equivalent as well prevents misunderstanding.

We recommend reviewing the document list together at the quote stage. Clarifying the specification wording by tying it to product and test standards both shortens the supply time and removes post-shipment surprises.

How to Send a Document Request

It is enough to state the document types you require at the quote stage; documents are sent digitally with the shipping papers, and a wet-signed copy is sent on request. In projects requiring third-party inspection, the inspection plan is determined together before the order.
