Product Description
Mica, a natural mineral, is one of the most durable known insulation materials against partial discharge. Mica in flake form is bonded onto a glass-fibre weave or polyimide film carrier to make tape and wound onto the conductor with overlap.
Thanks to its inorganic structure, mica keeps functioning at temperatures where organic insulations decompose. This property is decisive in applications where circuit integrity must be preserved under fire conditions and in windings directly exposed to heat.
Mica-based insulation materials are assessed to the IEC 60371 series. Insulation thickness is set by the number of tape layers; when saturated with impregnating varnish, mechanical strength and dielectric performance rise together.
Applications
Fire-resistant circuits, generator stator bars, induction furnaces and furnace coils, high-temperature transformers.
