Product Description
In this product two different insulation mechanisms work on top of each other. The enamel layer on the conductor provides inter-turn insulation at low thickness; the mica tape wound over it forms protection against partial-discharge (corona) erosion and thermal overloads.
In machines driven by frequency converters, the very short rise-time impulse voltages cause an uneven voltage distribution across the first turns of the winding. While organic insulations erode over time under this condition, the inorganic mica structure resists for a long time. The composite structure meets both requirements in a single product.
Mica-based insulation materials are assessed to the IEC 60371 series; conductor dimensions are set to the IEC 60317 series approach. Tape width and overlap ratio are chosen according to the winding geometry and the targeted insulation thickness.
